Mutual fund SIP cancellation errors and fixes 2026 — ARN mismatch, SIP date, OTM and 10-day rule with MF Central and AMC solutions

SIP cancellation is simple — inform the AMC/registrar and the bank stops the debit. Errors usually mean the form didn’t match the SIP master. This page lists every common error code/message and the fix, so you don’t lose another EMI.

Cancel vs Pause vs Stop vs Redeem — Don’t Mix Them

ActionWhat happensNACH mandate?Units?
Cancel SIPFuture instalments stoppedKept live — reuse for next SIPStay invested
Pause SIPSkips 1–6 months, auto-resumesKept liveStay invested
Stop SIP + RedeemCancellation + redemptionKept unless cancelledSold (tax/Gains apply)
Cancel OTM/NACHBank mandate cancelled — all SIPs using it stopCancelledStay invested

Tip: If you will restart soon, cancel SIP only. Keep the OTM — next SIP needs no new mandate registration (1–2 days saved).

The 10-Day Rule (Why “Submitted” Still Debited)

Most registrars need the cancellation 10 calendar days before the next SIP date (AMCs: 7–21 days; BSE Star/MF Utility: T+2–7). Submitting on the 28th for a 1st-due SIP will debit on the 1st and then stop from the next cycle. Cancel early — get an acknowledgement with request number.

Top 12 SIP Cancellation Errors and Exact Fixes

Error you seeReal reasonFix in 2 minutes
“SIP not found / Invalidfolio-SIP combination”Folio number, SIP date or amount typed differently from master (e.g., 5th vs 05th, Rs 5000 vs 5000.00, direct vs regular plan)Copy exactly from the SIP registration statement: folio (with leading zeros), SIP date (5th), amount, and scheme plan. Use folio-level statement from CAMS/KFintech to verify.
“ARN / Distributor code mismatch”SIP was registered under a distributor ARN; cancelling as Direct or with another ARNCancel via the same channel — if started via distributor/BSE Star, cancel via the same ARN; or use MF Central / AMC login which bypasses ARN.
“BSE / NSE — Order cannot be cancelled, already processed / Exchange holiday”BSE Star MF / NSE NMF orders are exchange orders; cut-off missed or settlement startedRetry after settlement next business day, or cancel on MF Central which writes directly to RTA. Don’t cancel on exchange on the SIP date itself.
“SIP already cancelled / Inactive”Already marked cancelled but bank mandate still live; next debit blocked yet UI shows activeCheck RTA email — “SIP Cease” = done. No action. If bank still debited, raise with registrar + bank.
“NACH/OTM active — cannot cancel SIP”Platform expects SIP cease before OTM cancelCancel SIP first, wait for cease confirmation (1–2 days), then cancel OTM if you want.
“SIP with step-up / Top-up cannot be modified”Step-up SIP stored as multiple child legsCancel the parent + top-up legs together — select “Cancel entire step-up” or use AMC form ticking “with top-up”.
“Signature mismatch”Offline form signature differs from folio first holderSign exactly as per folio; use first holder only. Attach PAN copy + use Aadhaar eSign if available to avoid signature check.
“Bank mandate still debiting after cancel”Cancelled within 10 days of SIP date — NACH file already sent to bankNext debit is last. Ask AMC for “SIP Cease date” email. If two debits occur, apply for reversal with that email at the bank *after* the second debit fails.
“KFintech vs CAMS — statement not found”Fund is on the other registrarCheck AMC’s registrar (list on amfiindia.com). Use KFintech portal for SBI/Axis/ICICI/Nippon; CAMS for HDFC/Mirae/Aditya Birla/Kotak etc. Or use MF Central for both.
“Folio joint holders — not authorized”Only first holder can cancelLogin as first holder; offline form must be signed by all joint holders as per mode of holding if required.
“SIP registered via SIP Auto Pay / iSIP — cancel disabled”Bank Auto Pay SIP tied to e-mandateCancel via bank’s e-mandate section + AMC/RTA SIP cease together.
“Cooling period / Pending allotment”Very new SIP — first instalment not settledWait for first allotment confirmation, then cancel.

Platform-wise Correct Way to Cancel (Choose One Path)

MF Central (CAMS + KFintech together — Recommended)

  1. Login at mfcentral.com with PAN + mobile OTP.
  2. Go to Systematic Transactions → select folio & SIP → Cancel / Cease.
  3. Acknowledgement → Cease confirmation by email in 1–4 working days.

AMC Website / App (Direct SIPs)

  1. AMC login → My SIPs / Systematic → choose SIP (check date + amount) → Cancel.
  2. OTP → confirmation. Works best for Direct plans.

BSE Star MF / NSE NMF (Distributor / RIA route)

  • Distributor must place “SIP Cancellation / XSIP Cease” on exchange portal with the same ARN. Don’t try to cancel a BSE-registered SIP directly on the AMC site if it still shows “Exchange mode” — use the distributor path or MF Central.

CAMS / KFintech Investor Portal

  • CAMS: camsonline.com → Investors → Systematic → Cancel; KFintech: mfs.kfintech.com → Investor Services → SIP Cancellation. Use folio + PAN validation.

Offline — Works for Every AMC (Foolproof)

  1. Download the SIP Stop / Cancellation Form for your AMC (or CAMS/KFintech common SIP Cease form). All forms are at PuneInvest Forms and Downloads.
  2. Fill exactly: Name as per folio, Folio No (with zeros), Scheme + Plan + Option, SIP date (e.g., 7th), SIP amount, SIP start & end date, bank name + account no. last 4, SIP to be stopped current vs next month.
  3. Sign by first/sole holder (all holders if joint “either or survivor” requires). Attach PAN copy + cancelled cheque if change of bank.
  4. Submit at any CAMS/KFintech branch or AMC branch; take stamped acknowledgement with request number. Track via email/SMS — “SIP Ceased” within 5–10 days.

After Cancellation — Don’t Forget

  • Keep the NACH/OTM if you’ll restart a SIP — next registration needs no new bank approval.
  • Units stay invested — you are not redeemed. To redeem, place a separate redemption request.
  • Reversal: A debit within the 10-day window after you cancelled is usually the last — keep the “Cease” email for reversal claim if a second debit occurs.
  • Reinvest? Map the ceased EMI to an SIP cancellation and pause guide or increase another SIP — don’t let the gap drift.

FAQs

How many days before SIP date should I cancel?

At least 10 days before the next SIP date. AMCs vary 7–21 days; MF Central shows the cutoff at confirmation.

SIP cancelled but NACH still active — will money be debited?

NACH file goes to bank before SIP date. If cancellation was <10 days before, one last debit can occur, then stops. Keep the OTM if you plan to restart.

Can I cancel a SIP started via a distributor on the AMC website?

Sometimes not — exchange/broker SIPs must be cancelled via the same ARN on the exchange. MF Central bypasses this and is preferred.

Is pausing better than cancelling?

To skip 1–6 months, Pause preserves the SIP and date; Cancel ends it until you re-register. Pause keeps the same SIP registration.

Do I need a new NACH for the next SIP?

No — if you didn’t cancel the OTM, the same mandate is reused. MF Central will show it as “Approved — reusable.”

Why does my bank still show a mandate after cancellation?

Banks show mandates until the AMC confirms “Ceased” and the NPCI file updates — 2–5 days lag. AMC email is the source of truth.
